Lisa presented the check to Justa Community Center recently. Here is what they plan to do with it.

We are going to use some of the money to help keep the doors open. So we can keep all the resources open that Justa Center offers. We will by beds for members that move into permanent housing and transitional housing. It will help  buy food for the pantry, During the summer, When a lot of donors are out of town.  And Help buy supplies needed in the nurses clinic.

And thank you so much for the current “welcome home” kits. These are so valuable to our seniors as they are placed into housing !

This is what Dysart plans to do with their donation:

The $12,000 donation was so completely unexpected.  After much thought I decided to apply this donation to several projects to gain the most value for the future of the children, youths and adults that we are serving.  This will definitely be used to make positive changes that are practical and useful to our mission to help raise up families, helping them break the cycle of poverty.

  • GYM WALL MATS
    • Part of the funding has purchased  11 new gym wall mats, wood backed, to to into our revitalized gymnasium.  Thanks to a grant from the Phoenix Suns and an anonymous matching donor we were able to get a new wooden floor with the Phoenix Suns Logo which is just a week away from completion.  The wall mats (which protect our students from running into the brick wall) were very old and breaking down.  Your funding was applied to purchase new black wall mats, which will not only look beautiful with the Suns logo, but will increase the safety in the basketball court.
  • NEW DOOR SECURITY CAMERAS
    • Part of the funding was applied to purchase six new door security cameras that work without wifi, ensuring better security access to the classrooms.  These cameras were tested lasted week and are perfect for parents picking up children, helping staff to be certain who is on the other side of the door.  They also assist anyone teaching an adult student(s) in the classroom to see who is outside the door before opening itl  These cameras work without internet and are such a blessing to the center.
  • NEW LAPTOP FOR ADULT EDUCATION
    • Our adult education class laptop was very old and stopped functioning, the Triology @ Vistancia Women’s Club funds are purchasing a new laptop, which can be used for the Adult Education classes, GED/High School Diploma/ ESL and Citizenship, as well as for presentations during the year at the center.
  • NEW LASER PRINTER
    • The funding will be applied towards the cost of a new Laser Jet Printer, and comsumables, which we will use for marketing materials, GED/ESL/High School Diploma and study materials for all our classes.  This will be placed in our soon to be refurbished computer lab, offering a more economical way to print study materials, certificates and awards.
  • GED TEXTBOOKS & PARTIAL SCHOLARSHIPS
    • Part of the funding will be set aside to purchase the GED textbook, needed by our adult students in order to achieve their GED Certificate.  Combined with a partial scholarship, this funding will ensure the students have no barriers to achieving their GED, helping them to change their future dramatically.
  • SUMMER CAMP SCHOLARSHIPS
    • The remaining funds will be placed aside to assist in providing partial scholarships for at least ten families in our 9 week summer camp program.  These scholarships will ensure that families are able to work and provide safe care for their children and that the children are able to overcome summer learning loss.
  • POSSIBLE SERVICE PROJECTS
    • We are looking for your support to run monthly events (seasonal) such as:
    • an easter egg bingo/hunt
    • summer events – towels, sun lotion and/or swimsuit collection
    • socks and underwear collection
    • monthly birthday parties where we celebrate all youths who have a birthday in that month
    • school supply drive
    • haircuts for school drive
    • Readers, storytellers who come in and do a reading and a craft

I am extremely pleased to let everyone know our two Holiday Fundraisers, Mistletoe Magic and the Holiday Home Tours were a major success. We raised a total of $19,805.42 after our expenses from these two events. We also received $3,550 in gift cards for Dysart Community Center and Justa Center! I aslo what to acknowledge that these events would not have been such a huge success without the ladies for volunteered to lead them:

Mistletoe Magic – Christi Atchison

Holiday Home & Garden Tour – Rosemary Podwin, Debbie Burmeister, Pam Koerner and Lisa Auen.

We also had several of you volunteer the final evening on Mistletoe Magic ensuring that everyone received the proper item. The Home tour also had MANY of you who helped out the homeowners. These events could not happen without people stepping up and to this I am also very grateful!
